VILLEFRANCHE-SUR-MER

Villefranche-sur-Mer is situated about 5 km or 20 min by car east of Nice. By car take either the coastal way ove Cap the Nice (M6098) or M6007 over Mont Boron. Or take the bus no. 15 from Port Lympia which takes about 15 minutes.

Villefranche has just over 5000 inhabitants and it’s a very old merchant’s harbor. Today many cruise ships stay in the bay of Villefranche where they are well protected from the wind.

Jean Cocteau spent a part of his life in Villefranche where he had the feeling to be reborn.

Chapelle St. Pierre

4 Quai de l'Amiral Courbet, Villefranche-sur-Mer

This cute little church for fishermen was built at the end of the XVI century.

With time, it more and more was used for other purposes as keeping the fishing material and it was even used as a kind of court for the fishermen.

Jean Cocteau renovated part of the church and remade the inside walls and part of the outside facade.

Les senteurs de Marie

4 Rue du Poilu, Villefranche-sur-Mer

A nice little shop in the old city of Villefranche-sur-mer, where Marie-Claire takes care of you as if you visited her home.

She offers quality products made in the region; clothes in natural material, candles, ambient scent, soup and much more, sometimes surprising.

Flower Parade

Every year during Carnival time there is the Flower Parade on the sea.

The local fishermen dress in traditional Provencal dresses and throw flowers on each other.

It will take place 19 February 2024

Nice to visit

Wellbeing_Walk Nice_Villefranche

Coastal walk Nice -Villefranche

To walk from Nice to Villefranche along the coastal path is good for both body and soul. We went along the Promenade to the other side of the harbor, continued around Cap de Nice, took the stairs down to the coastal path.
The path is arranged but sometimes rather difficult. We made a stop regularly to admire the amazing view. It took us 2 1/2 hours to reach the village where we had a well deserved lunch. After a swim in the sea we took the bus (no 15) back to Nice harbor.

An enjoyable day!

Place Wilson, Villefranche-sur-Mer

This restaurant is situated in the centre of the village with a big terrasse facing the Villefranche bay.
They specialise in fish and seafood and it is really fresh. They even present the fish on a plate before choosing.
The food is delicious and very tasty and the wine is nice.
The waiters are very sympathetic.
It’s a high class restaurant to a reasonable price.

I like – the panoramic view from the terrasse

La Trinquette Jazz Club

30 Avenue du Général de Gaulle, Port de la Darse, Villefranche-sur-Mer

A very nice jazz club at the Darse Port and initially a bar for sailors and smugglers. Today is a music bar with live acoustic music.

They serve wine, beer and soft drinks, today’s special and some snacks.

I like – very nice ambiance.

I use to have lunch at this restaurant because it is nicely situated at the border of the quay very close to the water. You can look at the small boats coming and going.

The food is French -Italian, very fresh. The staff is always friendly and service minded.

I like – to sit on the edge of the quay

Olivier and Marc offer a large choice of Nice specialities , fish and seafood. The food is good, and choice of wine is correct.

The terrasse is very nice, but it’s even better on the other side of the street, very close to the water.

I like – The nice and friendly ambiance

St. Donat

270 Route de Cannes, Grasse

Situated between Cannes and Grasse and about 40 min. drive from the centre of Nice. Nice diversified landscape. Holes 11 to 15 are going up and down and are rather challenging. It is well maintained even during tough weather conditions. It’s a busy course so count on close to 4h30 to make the 18 holes. The restaurant has a sunny and nice terrasse with a view over hole 9 and 10 and the lake.

Greenfee 72 euros if booking online (85 euros full price).

Ambiance and service – nice
Quality and maintenance – very nice
Price/quality -nice
Nice to play – nice

I like – the cute little palm tree indicating the 135 metres to the green.
