NICE GOLF

MY FAVOURITE GOLF COURSES

On the Riviera you can play golf all year around. The courses are situated between the sea and the mountains.
In wintertime, you are surrounded by the snowy mountains, in spring you are following nature waking up,
during summer it can sometimes be too hot and the autumn is so beautiful with all the colours.
I play golf for fun and the pleasure of being outdoors in beautiful surroundings.
So for me a nice golf course is a pretty environment in a friendly atmosphere.
I don’t care so much about the technical difficulties but I like variety. And it is nicer if the green fee is reasonable.
To get a good price, check out for ladies/mens day, book online, buy a book or a golf pass.

Fregate Golf Club Provence

Lieu dit Fregate, RD 559, 83270 Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer

Fregate golf club is situated close to Bandol about two hours drive from Nice. It’s one of the most beautiful golf courses in France with 15 viewpoints over the Mediterranean Sea.
The course is located in the heart of vineyards and pines and the play is exciting and varied with some very challenging holes.
It’s physically demanding and the pace is rather slow.
They also have a nice 9 holes training course.
Greenfee for 18 holes in mid-season is 85 euro

Monte-Carlo Golf Club

Route du Mont Agel, La Turbie

Situated at 900 m above sea level, this course must have the most stunning view over the Riviera and the mountains.
It takes 30 min by car from Nice and the road is magnificent.
We were very nicely taken care of at the reception and the staff was very serviable. The course is very interesting to play and very well maintained. A buggy is recommended as it is rather hilly.
The restaurant serves good food on the sunny terrace.  The green-fee is expensive, the list price is 110-160 euros.

La Grande Bastide

761 Chem. des Picholines, Châteauneuf-Grasse

40 min. drive from Nice centre, this golf course is beatifully situated at the foot of the village Chateauneuf de Grasse.
The Club has a new owner and the course has been rebuilt during 2023.
It’s not too physical, but still fun and diversified. The greens are often higher than the fairway which makes it difficult to roll on and needs a perfect pitch. Difficult greens. Very good and clear signs where to go for the next hole. Greenfee 48-95 euros. Ladies day on Mondays.

Opio Valbonne

Route de Roquefort, Opio

This course is easy to access about 30 min. from Nice. The course is beautiful and very well maintained. The fairways and the greens are in good shape. Some holes can be a little muddy in wintertime. The restaurant has a lovely terrasse with a view over the departure of hole 10 and the arrival of hole 18. Greenfee is around 75 euros if you book online, cheaper in the afternoon (full price 44-90 euros).Ladies day on Tuesday at 42.50.

Claux Amic

1 Route des 3 Ponts, Cabris

Situated in a National Park north of Grasse about 1h10 from Nice centre.  This splendid 18 holes offers an incredible nature,  quiet and calm. The course is challenging and the greens are difficult. Hole 3 has a stunning view over Cannes and the sea . Hole 13 is nicely situated and challenging as you have to drive over a lake. The green fee is 60 euros

St. Donat

270 Route de Cannes, Grasse

Situated between Cannes and Grasse about 40 min. drive from the centre of Nice. Beautiful and diversified landscape. Holes 11 to 15 are going up and down and are rather challenging. It’s well maintained even during tough weather conditions. It’s a busy course so count on close to 4h30 to make the 18 holes.  There is also 9 holes compact course.

The restaurant has a sunny and nice terrasse with a view over hole 9 and 10 and the lake.

Golf club of the Olive trees, San Remo

Str. al Campo da Golf, 59, Sanremo IM, Italy

A nice and friendly golf course in Italy at 1h-1h30 by car from Nice.
It’s beautiful and very well maintained. Some holes have a nice sea view.
But some holes are very close to the highway and that makes it too noisy and takes away the peaceful feeling I like on a golf course..
It’s rather hilly and challanging.
The price was good, only 50 euros
They have a restaurant with a big terrace and a magnificent view.

Beauvallon

Boulevard des Collines, Grimaud

The course is nicely situated between Ste. Maxime and St. Tropez 1,5 h drive from Nice.

Hole 4-14 have a very nice view over the gulf, framed wtih beautiful trees such as olive and ecualyptus..

The course is nice and green and rather pleasant to play, except for the holes 14 and 17 where you have to hit over a fence and a road. It’s surrounded by coloful flowers and vines.
The distance to the green is well indicated but the next hole sometimes difficult to find. Greenfee is reasonable at 75 euros. Very good food at the restaurant.

Château de Taulane

Le Logis du Pin, D6085, 83840 La Martre

The Taulane golf is considered as one of the most beautiful golf courses in France. It took 1h40 from Nice by car through the spectacular Gorge de Loup. Situated at 1000 meters high, the temperature was 10 degrees less than in Nice in the morning, and the course was covered by dew. The golf is nice to play, the fairways are wide, framed by tall pine trees, but the greens were sometimes difficult. Possibility to combine green fee and lunch to a reasonable price of 87 euros (low season).

Domaine de Barbossi

802 Av. des Amazones,  Mandelieu-la-Napoule

This is a beautiful 18 holes course in Napoule Mandelieu, with a nice view over the Esterel mountains. It is well maintained, calm, full of flowers and birds. The domain also has its own wine yard and  hole 9 is situated along  the vines. It is technically difficult and also demanding physically. A buggy is strongly recommended. And still it takes 4h30. Rather expensive – list price 90 euro, but possible to get a better option with online booking.
The restaurant L’Arbre jaune serves good food with a nice view over the drive from hole 3.

Old Course

265 Rte du Golf,  Mandelieu-la-Napoule

This course is situated in Cannes Mandelieu and it takes about 40 minutes from Nice. It is a high class club and a beautiful course, very pleasant to play. The course is cut in two parts by the river Saigne. Between hole 2-3 and 12-13, you have to take a ferryboat and while waiting you can have a snack. However, I was disturbed by the traffic around it with planes coming and going and the train crossing the course. Very nice club house and a sunny terrace for lunch. The green fee is expensive, the list price is 100 euro.

Le Provencal

95 Av. Roumanille, Biot

This is a friendly 9 holes golf course in Sophia Antipolis about 30 minutes drive from the centre of Nice. Rather easy and fits good for a nice, short play.
The restaurant is very busy as many companies around come for lunch. They have a lunch formula with fantastic desserts. The terrasse is nice for a drink with a view of the green on hole 9.
Green fee 35 Euros list price.

St. Endreol

4300 Route de Gagnols en Foret, La Motte

This is a beautiful 18 holes course in the Var about 1 hour from Nice. When you leave the highway you go through the vineyards. The course is situated in the middle of the Esterel mountains so it is very hilly. It is well maintained. The fairways are narrow and the first 9 holes are also leaning towards the right. Hole 13 is very beautiful and challenging, over a lake. Then there are some holes in a valley which are flat before going uphills again at hole 17 and 18. I don’t like the walking between the holes. It’s recommended to take a buggy. List green fee is 78euro but we payed 70euro booking by Mygreenfee.com

Victoria

1475 Chem. du Val Martin, Valbonne

35 minutes from Nice in Valbonne, this 9 hole golf course is very calm. The holes are difficult. It starts with the most difficult hole no 1, with a raised green. Many greens are undulating. The course is not very well maintained. Green fee Ladies day 28 euro. You make it in  2 hours.  The restaurant offers a nice and sunny terrasse.

Valberg Golf Club

265 Rte du Golf,  Mandelieu-la-Napoule

This is a very tricky golf course situated at 1700 m high, 1h40 from Nice. Valberg is a ski resort so the 9 holes course is only open from June to October. The course is original where all the holes are either uphill or downhill and also sidehill.  It’s playful and technical at the same time. It’s recommended to rent a buggy. Green fee 30/35 euros, buggy 22 euros. Possibility to buy tickets by 10 and get 10% off. The restaurant “The Birdie” has a nice terrasse for a drink or lunch.

Biot

3600, av. Jean Michard-Pellissier, Antibes

This 18 holes course is 30 min.from Nice. It’s nicely situated at the feet of Biot village. But it’s flat and rather boring with a lot of transportation between the holes and the course is cut by the road. Holes 4 to 10 are on the other side of the road and they are kind of “creative” and challenging. Especially hole 6 and 7, both par 3, where one is steep uphill and the other deep downhill. It’s difficult to find the distance markings. The course is rather short and fast. Greenfee possible at 50 euros (tarif 69).

La Vanade

Only 18 km from Nice, this 9 holes course is suitable for training. The driving range has 53 places and nice pro’s if you want to take a lesson. The course is technically challenging, but good for training. The restaurant is good and the terrasse is sunny. Greenfee 35 euros, 25 on Ladies day (Tuesday).
