Starting at Roquebrune-Carnoles
We took the train to Roquebrune-Carnoles, which takes about 30 minutes from Nice-ville.
We went down to the beach where we started to look out to Menton and the mountains at the Italian border and over the Carnoles beach and the sea .
Before starting the walk we also admired the statues of Josefine Baker (she lived in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin 1906-1975) made by Paul Pacotto.
Rounding the Cap-Martin
Then we headed west along the beach and along the avenue Sir Winston Churchill passing by a couple of nice private beaches and restaurants, before starting the coastal walk.
It’s an easy walk with many possibilities to rest and admire the view and luckily also some pine trees to get some shadow as it was a very hot day.
At one point you pass by a statue of “Le Corbusier ” who lived some years
Nice view over Monaco
Coming around the Cap on the west side, you have a splendid view over Monaco.
After almost an hour in a slow walk, we arrived at the Buse Beach where we had a refreshing swim and a pic-nic.
At the beach is a restaurant called “Le Cabanon” where we could have some shade and a coffee. And then we had to finish going up many stairs to get to the Roquebrune station and catch the train back to Nice.
Options for next time
The next beach is a calm beach because it is difficult to access. Take to the left at the station and walk over the bridge and immediately take to the left. Follow the signs Plage du Golfe Bleu and the path down to the beach.
Another famous person, Jacques Brel, lived in a small house at the Golfe Bleu.
For the sporty people, it’s possible to continue the coastal walk to Monte-Carlo which will take another 45 minutes. Then take the path to the left just before the bridge.
I will also be back to visit Villa Eileen Gray and the Corbusier’s Cabanon.
