Going to Camp Romain

A sunny day in February, we went hiking in Le Rouret. This little village is situated between Villeneuve-Loubet and Grasse about 40 min. drive from Nice.

We met at the parking lot next to La Mairie du Rouret. From there we took the Camp Romain hike situated in the north part of the village. It’s an easy hike of about 6 km with a height difference of 230 m. It took us about 2-2,5 hours including a break for lunch.

First we walked along some houses and then went into a small forest where we looked into the opening of a cave called La Baume Robert. It was discovered in 1899 and contains a 4600 m long network of water, a main river and two tributaries and a magic gallery.W

Lunch with a view

We admired the view over Le Rouret village. After a rather steep slope we came to a larger gravel road that we continued up to Camp Romain. There we stopped for a picnic lunch.

After lunch we admired the view over the valley in the other direction towards Le Bar-sur-Loup et Gourdon. The way back was easy on a gravel road all the way down to the village.

Visiting “Le Marche de nos collines”

Before heading home, I went to the local shop called “Le Marche de nos collines”, where you can buy local food from the region such as a fantastic Olive Oil, and other products based on olives, jam and syrup based on local fruits, fresh fruits and vegetables and also some meat and cheese.
